I love to laugh! My sisters joke that I often come off as a little reserved. (Maybe sometimes, but not always, but that's a conversation for another time.) Anyways, when I am seated in an audience, or even in front of a television screen and a standup comedian is masterfully working the audience with captivating stories that tie into cleverly weaved punchlines, I find myself laughing so hard that my stomach and cheeks hurt. I appreciate the thought and skill that it takes to put the right combination of story and joke together to amuse so many different personalities.
My husband, Rob, and I recently found ourselves discussing our top 5 standup comedians of all times. We determined that our choices couldn't be chosen by the how funny they were in any particular movie that we liked, by how well they have marketed themselves, or any public woes they may have dealt with in their personal lives. Our choices had to be based solely on their standup skills. This was tough to do, but we each finally narrowed our choices down. But we threw out names like Earthquake, Bernie Mac, Robin Harris, Redd Foxx, Chris Tucker, Chris Rock and Gary Owen. We realized that there have been some really good comedians out there, but we finally forced ourselves to choose 5 (or maybe 6).
So, Rob's Top 5 Standup Comedians are:
2. Eddie Murphy
5. Arnez J
(honorable mention: Gary Holcomb)
My Top 5 Standup Comedians are (in no particular order):
1. Kevin Hart
5. Jamie Foxx
(honorable mention: Kat Williams)
So, who are your favorite comedians. What is your Top 5?
Proverbs 17:22 (NIV)
A cheerful heart is good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones.
